The company was established in 1985 by its founder David Crickmay in the Southen African timber and sawmilling industry.  It is here that the process of continuous improvement has its origins in a product called the Intermill Comparison.  The process succeeded in what was a particularly brutal industry and which saw 75% of the formal sawmills closing their doors over a 20 year period.  Interestingly 75% of the original Intermill clients survived and now flourish.

This process forms the basis of the company’s philosophy and has successfully been introduced into a number of industries.  As the process became better defined, so too did the IT capability supporting it and the greater the application it found.

In each industry the process has led to the emergence of specific solutions.  In the sugar industry for example, the FREDD Scheduling System has dramatically improved mill turnaround times and regular delivery of cane to the mills using it.
