On 23 December 2010, Lindo Kubheka (Crickmay employee), Sibusisiwe Kubheka (her sister) and Siphelele Dlamini (her boyfriend) visited the three main public hospitals in Pietermaritzburg; namely, Northdale, Greys and Edendale to deliver christmas gifts to all the children admitted in their paediatric wards.
At the three hospitals, the Crickmay crew were taken by the nursing Sisters through to each ward and had an opportunity to meet and wish each child a merry Christmas while giving them a chistmas gift pack. Although some children were critically ill, or too young to show any emotion, a gift was left for them in their beds with the mothers by their side for those who were lucky to have them around.
Crickmay donated R3, 000 for gifts for each of the three hospitals; R9000 in total and a total of 178 children were each given a gift pack filled with goodies; toys, snacks, sweets, chocolates and juices.
It was a touching and emotional experience to spend the last week before Christmas shopping around for gifts to be given to the sickly children, but all the effort and time that was put in to it was well worth it. Seeing the smiles on the children’s’ faces and looking into their innocent eyes was really a priceless moment. The children were so excited to receive unexpected Christmas presents and were made to feel the love and joy of the Christmas spirit.
The hospital staff and nursing Sisters were really grateful to Crickmay for their thoughts in donating back to the community and for making Christmas a special one for the children.
